The programme on Sustainable Community Development for CSOs, specifically targets individuals and organizations who are interested in community development and are also desirous of establishing and managing a Community Based or other Civil Society Organizations. The programme covers a number of management and technical courses, including financial, organizational, human resource, project development and management and climate change related courses. A key feature of the program is its Competency based education and training or CBET focus. In this regard, the skills, knowledge and attitude required for the education and training of trainees were gathered through ‘hybrid’ job-analysis workshops’. At these workshops experienced CSO owners, managers and workers identified the gaps in capacities within current CSOs. These needs gaps were translated into a number of competencies which were developed as courses that form the programme. As a consequence of the CBET model, the programme will be delivered and assessed using nontraditional techniques. In other words, delivery is not focused on purely lectures and assessments using paper tests and close book exams. Courses will also be delivered using seminars, workshops and other short methods, with trainees given ample time to develop their skills and knowledge in work-based settings.
