INTRODUCTION TO CRIMINAL JUSTICE

This course examines the historical development of the agencies comprising the criminal justice system. It explains the issues facing the different criminal justice agencies locally, regionally, and internationally, while highlighting the need for criminal justice reform. It involves a critical examination of the structure, purpose, and efficacy of the police, courts and corrections. Students will be able to identify and explain the development of these agencies, their structure, purpose; evaluate their ability to carry out their mandate; and identify the way forward for the criminal justice system.

Admission Requirement

The completion of at least secondary / high school with at least two CXC/CSEC/GCE subjects. Alternatively, experience in the same or a closely related field.
