TAMCC students shine at regional Moot Court Competition in Antigua

A team of outstanding law students from T A Marryshow Community College (TAMCC) proudly represented Grenada at the prestigious Fortis Advocatus Moot Court Competition held in St John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, on 10–11 April 2025.

This year marked TAMCC’s second appearance at the Fortis Advocatus Moot Court Competition. The students made their mark in an intense display of legal advocacy, advancing to the semi-final round and securing accolades.

The Grenadian delegation, comprising Kamaran St Cyr, Abia Telesford, Adhara Salfarlie and Elouise Mitchell-Gooding, competed against law students from Antigua and Barbuda and St Vincent and the Grenadines in a simulated criminal appeal case titled Adima “Vybz Skilli” Parker v The Crown. Both teams argued for the Prosecution in the matter that tested the students’ ability to navigate complex legal issues before an esteemed panel of legal professionals.

The teams were coached by Attorneys-at-Law Crystal Braveboy Chetram, Danyish Harford, and Sheriece Noel, who were instrumental in preparing the students for competition-level oral and written advocacy. Attorney-at-Law Jasmine Redhead also played an instrumental role in the coordination of the students’ participation.

In addition to reaching the semi-finals, TAMCC was awarded the Best Academic Institution prize for consistency in excellence and discipline among all participating institutions. Notably, Adhara Salfarlie was named Most Promising Advocate, a highly regarded individual award recognising excellence in courtroom presence, legal reasoning, and potential for future contribution to the legal profession.

Director of the National Mooting Association of Antigua and Barbuda and Attorney-at-Law Andrena Athill-DaSouza commended the students for their achievement: “The team from T A Marryshow Community College demonstrated a high level of commitment and advocacy skill. Their performance was both intellectually impressive and professionally poised. We are proud to continue welcoming Grenadian students who reflect the best of what our region’s future legal fraternity has to offer.”

The semi-final and final rounds of the competition were adjudicated by distinguished panels of judges, including members of the judiciary, bar association, and esteemed members of the legal fraternity in Antigua.

The Fortis Advocatus Moot Court Competition is an annual initiative of the National Mooting Association of Antigua and Barbuda designed to develop advocacy, research, and legal analysis skills among Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) Law students in the Caribbean.

Grenada’s participation in this year’s event stands as a proud moment of achievement and inspiration for young aspiring legal minds across the tri-island state.
