Access Studies

(1) Certificate course – Phlebotomy and Sample Reception

This course focuses on phlebotomy as well as the sample collection, reception and pre-analytical processing of clinical laboratory specimens. Major activities will include blood collection by venipuncture and capillary puncture. After learning the techniques by practising on a simulated arm, students will collect specimens from one another to further develop their skill-set.

(2) Certificate course – Microscopy and X-Ray Microanalysis

In this course the theory, fundamental operating principles, and specimen preparation techniques of the transmission electron microscope (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) are covered. It deals with the use of the instruments, specimen preparation, and basic techniques needed to prepare biological and non-biological samples for electron microscopy and X-ray microanalysis. The course will provide instruction and hands-on practice in analysing samples, mapping, and interpreting analysis results.

(3) Certificate course – Clinical Laboratory Basics

This course will introduce students to the general knowledge of the theory and principles which govern the specific role of the laboratory technician. Basic aspects of medical terminology, laboratory constituencies, and fundamental biological characteristics related to laboratory testing are included.

(4) Certificate course – Conduct Analytical Work in a Laboratory

This is a practical course that covers analytical methods of chemical analysis. Topics include reparation of materials, chemical products or growing media, preparation of samples, application of standard method techniques and analysis of results.

(5) Certificate course – Real Estate Law and Practice

This course includes the introduction to the Law of Real Estate, Tenure, Leases, Estates, The Unregistered Scheme, Co-ownership, Condominiums, and Encumbrances on land – Mortgages, Restrictive Covenants, Easements and Adverse Possession.

(6) Certificate course – Business Law

This course introduces students to the study of specific aspects of Business Law. It discusses sources of law, legal issues involved in the establishment of companies and corporations as well as the rights and responsibilities of consumers under existing legislation. It also discusses some of the ethical issues involved in business decision-making.

(7) Certificate course – Business Communication

This Business Communication course is designed to enable students to become effective communicators in the increasingly competitive world of business.  It will incorporate all major forms of written business communication including: reports, curriculum vitae and application letters, requests for information, letters of complaint and advertising messages.  Additionally, students will consider the importance of oral communication skills, both for marketing themselves and for enhanced performance within a company.  Oral communication topics include negotiations, meetings and presentations.  On completion of the course, students should be equipped with essential business communication skills and feel confident in their ability to perform well in their chosen field.

(8) English as a Second Language (ESL) – Beginner’s Level

The course is designed to help candidates learn English as a second language so that they can better communicate with others in their personal life or in the workplace. It intends to help expatriates to function in the host country with confidence as they perform the necessities of daily life and to break down communication barriers.


(9) Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT)

This is a test designed to test individuals’ academic skills, and to determine their readiness for college-/university-level work. It is recommended for persons desirous of pursuing undergraduate studies in the USA.
